Bring on the Ber!

Happy September!

Thus begins my favorite time of year – the four months that end in BER. There’s a lot to love about summer, but it gets old fast. And winter can be a beast; especially here in New York City. And spring? Ok, it’s a nice change but it pales in comparison to Fall.

I know Fall doesn’t begin until way later this month, but there’s still a lot to enjoy. Therefore, I present to you my favorite things about the months that end in BER:

  • Labor Day Weekend
Yes, it’s the unofficial end of summer when we have our last trips to the beach, and big cookouts, and begin to put away our madras, linen, and seersucker clothes. But it’s also a three day weekend!
  • The US Open
  • Fashion Week
Whether or not you have anything to do with fashion week, there’s something fun about a city full of runway models.
  • The Jewish High Holidays
Yes, these are days we typically spend a full day in shul including one where we don’t eat, but I do enjoy the opportunity to put on a suit and see family friends. And the breaking of the fast at the end of Yom Kippur is one of the best bagels I will eat all year!
  • My birthday!
  • Baseball Post-Season
Even if my Mets don’t make it all the way this year, it’s always fun
  • Joining my friends to watch NFL football, and eat wings, and drink beer
  • FALL IN NEW YORK CITY!7c70f08d2d7bd6df06479f139a864ef3
  • Tweed
  • Corduroy
  • Jackets
  • Heavy brogues
  • Cool mornings where I can go outside for a run, and actually enjoy it!
  • Taking my daughter apple picking in Westchester or Rockland, and then heading over to Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers to take the same photo we take of her and my wife every year!
  • Pumpkin picking

  • Sukkot
  • Halloween
  • My 7th wedding anniversary
  • Dark beer
  • Pot pies
  • Roasting a whole chicken in my apartment without breaking a sweat
  • The New York City Marathon
  • Night before Thanksgiving
  • Thanksgiving
  • The days leading from Thanksgiving to Hanukkah and Christmas
  • Watching holiday season specials just to see if Michael Buble performs after appearing to have consumed one too many martinis.
  • Hanukkah – only because my daughter really enjoys it
  • Christmas – only because my wife does most of the driving for this week, and I can enjoy as much scotch as I want
  • Christmas parties – because Christmas parties
  • New Year’s Eve – because tomorrow is January. And nobody likes January.
